How
to Join the Club - Read First
Joining the Club
You can join the BRRC by completing a paper based
membership form at the club, or you can submit an email by clicking the link at
the end of this document.
The Club does not have daily or other short term
memberships, all memberships are annual. Non-members may participate in
organized matches held at the Club, but during off-hours shooting visitors must
be supervised by a Club member.
If you wish to visit the
Club the best time is between 6:00pm and 9:00pm when the shooting leagues are
operating as follows: Bullseye (Monday), IPSC
(Tuesday), Rifle (Wednesday), Silhouette (Thursday), Black Powder (Friday), PPC
(Sunday). During these periods a Director or their designate will be at the
Club and should be able to provide you with some information about the Club and
an application form. If you submit a paper membership application the completed
form can be placed in the mail slot located on the cupboard in the lounge area,
or it can be mailed to the Club address (see below).
The Club does not have
full time personnel or regular office hours, so if you come to the Club at
other times there might not be anyone to let you in or provide you with
information or an application form.
Safety Course
Your membership
application will be forwarded to the Safety Director, who will contact you
regarding the next available Club safety course. The course is generally given
on the last weekend of each month (except July and December), and covers safe
firearms handling and Club protocols and procedures. There may be some
duplication of material from other courses you have taken but we require all
members to take and pass the Club course. It is not a marksmanship course, but
everybody gets to shoot, and the Club supplies ammunition and firearms for the
practical session. No personal firearms or ammunition are permitted on the
course.
At the safety course you
will be required to pay for the course, your key card and pro-rated membership
dues for the balance of the calendar year. The amount due varies depending on
when you take the course because it includes your membership for the balance of
the year; $235 for January-March, $159 for April-June, $127 for July-September,
and $95 for October-December. These fees include a mandatory firearms organization
membership (for insurance purposes) which is required for all Club members.
Courses fill up very
quickly, but there is provision for walk-ins if space is available.
Observations
Once you have passed the course you become a
probationary member and you will be given a key card which will permit entry to
the Club during organized shooting periods, along with a yellow
"observation card". During the next six months you are required to
attend as an observer at each of the shooting disciplines listed above. You
should plan to be at the club for 7:00pm each night. The Director or designate
responsible for each discipline will give you a briefing on how they are
organized and will sign and date your yellow card.
When you have completed
all your observations you submit your yellow card by mailing it to the Club
address using the envelope provided at the safety course. Be sure to make
a copy of your observation card before mailing it!
Acceptance
The names of probationary members that have
completed their observations and submitted their yellow cards are presented at
the monthly Board of Directors meeting, and a vote is taken to accept the
probationary members as full members. Once this is done your key card is
updated to allow full access (except for cleaning & maintenance periods and
special events) and you will receive a welcome letter and sticker for your key
card indicating you are a full member.
As a probationary member
you permitted to shoot during organized discipline events, but you are not
permitted to shoot as a guest or during off hours.
How Long Does It Take?
The elapsed time from completing an application to
becoming a full member is difficult to estimate because it depends on how soon
you can attend a course and how long it takes to complete your observations.
Note that it may take up to 45 days from the day you complete your observations
until your name is presented for acceptance as a full member.
Do I Need a Firearms
License?
You may apply for and
take the safety course and complete your observations before you receive your
firearms license. You must provide your firearms license before your access
card will be enabled for full access to the Club.
Long Term Authorization
to Transport
If you require an LTATT you should advise the Permit
Secretary after you are accepted as a full member, and the Club will send an
LTATT application to the Chief Firearms Officer indicating you are a member.
Note that the CFO will only issue LTATTs to persons
who have at least one restricted firearm registered to them.
Personal Information
As part of your
application and during the safety course some personal information (name,
address, telephone number, firearms license and similar) is collected, and
members are required to keep the Club advised if this information changes.
Personal information is used for BRRC and related administrative purposes
(including CFI membership and LTATT applications) and will not be provided to
other parties except in accordance with a warrant or similar instrument.
